Corporate Director of Bakery - Supermarket

Our client, a regional grocery chain headquartered out of the Los Angeles area, is looking for a Director of Bakery to add to their team. This person will be responsible for all vendor management and bakery procurement, including: P&L, sourcing, negotiating and implementation for store level bakery department products adhering to gross profit objectives.

Your role with the Company

Ensure Bakery and Tortilleria Procurement and vendor management teams are communicated with daily

Conduct weekly regular analysis of department sales and margins

Manage, analyze, sales and volume for all items determining correct product assortment

Prepare merchandising plans, execute and ensure placement through communications within all stores

Good understanding of all equipment, tools and packaging used for both departments, as well as how the equipment is used, and being able to negotiate favorable acquisition costs

Understand all aspects of competitors in the market area, as it relates to these departments: selection, quality, margins, equipment and direction

Lead, guide, coach and continue to develop leaders of their team in planning, measuring and achieving the financial goals of the company, which includes full sales and margin responsibility

Spend quality time with direct reports to develop skills so that they deliver and exceed performance metrics in areas of safety, quality, customer, service, costs, inventory management and production

Work closely with the leaders to ensure there is a commitment to better understanding the competitive landscape to recognize and capitalize on opportunities

Partner with retail field operations to gain their "buy in" for programs, so they are embraced and executed effectively at the store level, including: personal development as well as continuous improvement

Review and recommend opportunities to improve department product production and execution to creatively and continuously enhance the customer experience

Assess current inventory, market conditions, availability, and promotional impact to forecast order quantities

Expect unfavorable events through analysis of data and prepare control strategies

Understand operational metrics and reports on shrink and work to minimize any losses by implementing best practice programs and systems

Discover profitable suppliers and initiate business and organization partnerships

Negotiate with external vendors to secure advantageous terms

Perform risk management for supply contracts and agreements

Control spend and build a culture of long-term saving on procurement costs

Visit stores, as needed, to monitor programs, obtain store feedback and to assess overall implementation effectiveness

Promote and defend clean and safe work environments in all Bakery and Tortilleria departments

Ensure teams are practicing high standards of food and human safety and sanitation techniques

Support all aspects of safety in these departments

Background Profile

Bachelor's Degree in Business or related field

10+ years of Sr. leadership in a baked goods supermarket environment including a strong understanding of the bakery/baked goods market

Experience sourcing and negotiating baked goods including tortilla products and ingredients

Experience implementing new programs and procurement strategies

Must be results driven

Bilingual Spanish/English necessary
