Director, Manufacturing

Our client, a processor of food safety chemicals for environment sanitation, is looking for a Director of Manufacturing to add to their team. This person will be responsible for the whole scope of supply chain: acquisition of materials, quality standards and specifications for raw materials and finished products, inventory management, the manufacture of finished goods inventory, and warehousing of finished goods.

Your role with the Company

New Product Support/Product Improvement

Lead in the planning and coordination of production changes, product line extensions, or new product launches

Coordinate with R&D during product ideation to develop list of desired product attributes to optimize manufacturability

Provide product pricing estimates from draft product formulas from R&D

Develop requirements and specification documents for manufacturing new products

Develop custom batch manufacturing sheets for each product by each manufacturer

Collaborate with external chemical process engineers to develop and finalize batch processes

Ensure commercialization of new product technology while documenting process

Raw Material Sourcing

Collaborate with R&D and Regulatory Affairs, to identify or qualify new suppliers

Identify alternate raw materials with equivalent performance to optimize cost and/or supply efficiency

Develop relationships with raw material suppliers to discuss specifications, sourcing, and new product options

Ensure that toll manufacturers are using specified raw material suppliers and products, and are purchasing EPA-registered raw materials, as required

Ensure and coordinate supply of all raw materials and establish anticipated growth rates for all raw materials

Inventory Management

Develop management systems and operational metrics to ensure sustained continuous improvement in cost, quality, safety and order fulfillment

Identify and coordinate warehousing and fulfillment of all company products

Implement policies and procedures to ensure effective and efficient operation of all purchasing, inventory, logistics, and supply chain functions

Maintain raw material and finished goods inventory and provide reports to Senior

Leadership on a regular basis

Analyze inventories to determine how to increase inventory turns and reduce waste

Manage activities related to strategic or tactical purchasing, material requirements planning, inventory control, warehousing, or receiving

Develop procedures for coordination of supply chain management with other functional areas, such as sales, marketing, finance, production, and quality assurance

In-house and External Production and Warehousing

Identify and validate multiple contract manufacturing locations for company's existing products and new product lines, ensure proper manufacture of all products, and to meet the geographic supply needs of the company

Develop and communicate manufacturing requirements to all suppliers and manufacturers

Evaluate feasibility of in-house vs. toll blending of company's products and provide cost analysis and comparison

Develop manufacturing plan for in-house manufactured products, including equipment, personnel and processes

Cost Analyses/Contract Negotiation

Document all costs related to the manufacture, warehousing and fulfillment of company's products

Anticipate future price pressures and take appropriate actions to mitigate price increases

Review and negotiate all price increase letters from suppliers to keep price increases to a minimum and to lock in pricing for as long as possible

Provide management with a minimum of 12-month cost projections for all company manufactured products

Quality Assurance

Work with R&D and Regulatory to establish quality auditing system, audit schedule, and audit all company manufacturing facilities at least quarterly

Appraise vendor manufacturing ability through on-site visits and measurements

Develop and update company operations manuals as well as all raw material, manufacturing and packaging specifications.

Background Profile

Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or related field

5+ years manufacturing and supply chain leadership in a chemical, sanitation, food protection or pharmaceutical processing environment

MUST have management experience

MUST have experience negotiating pricing and supply agreements

MUST be able to lift up to 50lbs

Must be able to travel 3-50% of the time
